Weekend Update & The Ressurection of Glycerin

I took down my twists for a twist-out on Friday, feeling quite guilty about leaving in the protective style for only 3 days. My hair felt awesomely soft, albeit a bit dry. I feel like I should have moisturised better when I did them on Tuesday - I'm still looking for the perfect moisturiser. I think I feel a mixing session coming on ... I just thought of the perfect ingredient!

You want a hint? No way!

What I can dish about this early morning is a great way to use glycerin. Now, originally I bought a bottle of this goop to add to my daily spritzes. My hair loved it but my face didn't. Tiny bumps on the forehead and hairline reminiscent of my late '90s to early '00s.

It's been languishing on my shelf for months until, in my neverending quest for the most moisturising DC ever, I thought about adding this fantastic humectant to my already potent mix.

I currently DC with a base of whatever Garnier Fructis 3-minute mask is currently on sale at the pharmacy. I prefer to get Sleek & Shine but I go through too much of this stuff to pay $27 a jar. So this week I'm using Colour Shield since that was marked down to $8.99! To that I add some coconut oil, castor oil, and honey (I never measure, sorry!) This week I tossed in some glycerin as well. I didn't use my heatcap, but left it in for at least 45 minutes. I rinsed out kneeling over the tub, detangling with my fingers under a cool stream of water. By the way, my hair was EXTREMELY easy to detangle, even as a two day old twistout. I pre-detangled in the shower with just wet hair, no product and my fingers just slid through. I continued after the DC using my fingers to pull free the shed hairs. I credit the flaxseed gel.

Results: Ultra-soft, ultra-moisturised hair. I think the glycerin gave my hair an added boost of moisture. I'm thrilled with the results and will definitely be using it again. It's awesome that the outcast bottle of glycerin has found a happy home in my growing arsenal of ingredients.

I twisted my hair up in large twists with some coconut oil and some Garnier
